School Games Day 5 – Colour Run Spectacular

The Winter School Games Week concluded with a Colour Run hosted at Colney Park, UEA with over 700 secondary school pupils from 20 schools across the county taking part.

After a fantastic week of sporting events for both primary and secondary school pupils, the final event showered participants in multi coloured paint during a 5k Colour Run.

Schools from across the eight School Sports Partnerships arrived steadily throughout the early morning, with each pupil being given a t-shirt to wear. Once signed in, everyone took part in a warm up led by ‘Mr Dodd’, a well known Zumba Instructor from Norwich.

The event was started by Paul Evans, ex GB Olympic marathon runner. The runners heading off around a 1km circuit. The challenge was to complete 5 laps. Strategically placed marshalls were loaded with a variety of paint colours to cover the passing by runners.

It was clear to see the marshalls, provided by ‘City College’ were hitting their desired targets with pupils being covered from head to toe.

All 700 runners completed, what was for many, their first 5k run.

Before leaving there was one last chance for all to add to the colour, by throwing the remaining paint into the air. This and other images can be found at

BBC Look East filmed the event which aired on there Friday evening show. Presenter Stewart White commenting “this looks like fun, could this be in the next Olympics”. I doubt that Stewart, but it certainly was a lot of fun!
