Norwich Teenage Girls Get Active at #ThisGirlCan Festival

Monday afternoon saw Norwich School Sport Partnership launch a brand new festival designed to help inspire more teenage girls to be physically active as part of the Norfolk School Games.

The festival targeted girls in Years 9-11 who enjoyed taking part in PE lessons but did not take part in additional sport or physical activity outside of lessons either in school or in their local community.

The aim of the festival was to use the inspiration of the national This Girl Can campaign to help girls to try a selection of new activities in the hope that they might find one that they like. All of the activities were provided by coaches/instructors from local organisations based in Norwich who offer regular sessions that the girls could take part in following the festival.

The girls that attended the festival had the opportunity to take part in the following activities;

Jon Osborne, Norwich School Sport Partnership School Games Organiser commented;

“We were really excited about today’s festival. It was a brand
new festival for the SSP and we are really pleased that it went so well. We hope that it has given the girls an opportunity to try some really exciting activities that they might not have tried before. We would like to thank all of the amazing instructors who provided all of the activities today.”

Mr Goodwin, Head of PE from Hewett Academy added;

“It was nice to see so many girls clearly enjoying physical activity and in particular some new activities. The loved KTRoo and were exhausted by the end.”

Miss Birkin, PE Teacher at Jane Austen College said;

“The This Girl Can’ Festival was a fantastic opportunity for our girls to get involved in activities that they would not have necessarily participated in voluntarily. All the girls had fun and clearly got a lot out of it, smiles all round!”
