Winter 2018 Day 1 – Pupils swing into action at the Norfolk School Games Key Steps 1 Gymnastics Finals

The opening day of the Norfolk Winter School Games 2018 brought 96 Year 1 & 2 boys and girls from across the County, to the fantastic Gymnastic Centre at the UEA Sportspark, to compete in our Key Stage 1 Keysteps Gymnastics Final.

The children qualified from their Level 2 competitions to represent their respective School Sport Partnerships from across the County and they have spent the last few weeks perfecting their vaults and Gymnastic routines to their chosen piece of music.

The competition was ably assisted by Helen Inglis from The Norwich Academy of Gymnastics, along with highly qualified club coaches, Sportspark gymnastics coaches and a very talented and enthusiastic group of leaders from Thorpe St Andrew School & Sixth Form.

In addition to the competition, the children had the opportunity to experience SPring’s excellent facilities along with some top class coaching on the bars, beams, trampoline and fast track. The children thoroughly enjoyed exploring the various pieces of equipment and acquiring some new skills which we hope will encourage them to think about joining their local Gymnastic clubs. We are really grateful to the following gym clubs, The Norfolk Academy of Gymnastics, Norwich Gym Club, Easton Gym Club, Chermond Gym Club, North Walsham Gym and Spring Gym Club (at both Diss & Hewett), who have all offered a free session to each of today’s participants with a view to getting more youngsters involved in community clubs. Our thanks to all of these clubs and I hope, from this, that we see our gymnasts from today progressing through the years.

Well done to all of our gymnasts today who presented their gymnastics routines and vaults with such skill and confidence. Their routines were beautifully choreographed by their various teachers/coaches and the children did them great justice with their performances.

Congratulations go to our Norfolk School Games Keysteps 1 Gymnastics medal winners :-
