Summer 2018 – Day 5…These Girls Can… Smash plenty of runs & take lots of wickets!!!

Friday 22nd June saw the fifth & final day of the Norfolk School Games take place and part of that was the Girls Kwik Cricket Finals held at Manor Park – the home of Horsford Cricket Club.

16 teams from across the 8 School Sports Partnerships in Norfolk took part meaning there were over enthusiastic 150 girls from Years 5/6 enjoying the Cricket fun in the sun. This helped to set a very historic feel for the day as never before has Norfolk hosted a Girls Cricket festival with such high attendance – a feather in the School Games ‘hat’ for sure!

The 16 teams taking part were split into 4 groups, playing matches against the other teams in a round-robin format. Once these were all finished, the Winners & Runners-Up from each group went forward into the Cup competition, whilst the 3rd and 4th placed teams entered the Plate competition.

After a day jam-packed with boundaries, wickets & spectacular catches the final standings were…

1st – St. Williams (Norwich East)

2nd – Wreningham (South Norfolk)

3rd – Woodlands ‘A’ (East Norfolk)

Plate Winners – St. Francis of Assisi (9th overall)

The Norfolk School Games Team would like to say a huge “thank you” to the Young Leaders from Litcham High School who again did a fantastic job of umpiring & scoring at today’s matches – following on from their sterling efforts earlier in the week at the Mixed finals. We would also like to extend yet another huge set of thanks to Kieron Tuck from the Norfolk Cricket Board for his continual help & support in making this event run so smoothly and for embracing the expanded format this year – in addition to providing the fantastic Cricket Board staff to ensure every eventuality was covered on the day.
