Summer 2018 Day 4 – Secondary students go for Gold when taking to the track and giving their all on the field

With an overcast, blustery start to the day at the Sportspark around 640 pupils from Secondary Schools across the County came together to compete in the Secondary School School Games Athletics Finals.

Despite the windy conditions pupils spirits were high. Speedy times were set on the Track and big distances recorded out on the Field. All of the medals that we given out today were presented by Team England’s Iona Lake, who recently returned from the Commonwealth Games in Australia where she took part in the 3000m Steeplechase. A massive thank you to Iona, again , for being our School Games Ambasador for the day. She took time to talk to the competitors and I am sure, as a local Norfolk Athletics talent , inspired many today.

As always we are hugely grateful to the UEA Sportspark for hosting us and allowing us to use their fantastic facilities for today and the duration of the games.

A thank you to everyone who helped out with the running of the event today , we had the most support we have ever had at an Athletics meet and it really showed. Also a massive thank you to the Sports Leaders from Taverham High School who helped with the timing of the races.

The overall Partnership standings finished as follows…

1st – South Norfolk

2nd – West Norwich & Dereham

3rd – West Norfolk

4th – Norwich East

5th – North Norfolk

6th – East Norfolk

7th- Norwich

8th – Breckland
