Wednesday 4th March
Day 7 of the 2020 Norfolk School Games Winter Finals took place at Holkham Hall. The final day of the Winter Games schedule saw 640 young runners, from over 150 schools, come together to take part in the Norfolk School Games cross country finals.
Each of the participants had qualified to represent their local School Sports Partnership (SSP) by taking part in a prior qualifying competition. Each SSP team included 80 runners made up of 10 boys and 10 girls from each of the year groups 3, 4, 5, and 6.
Despite the wet and windy conditions we have seen recently, the sun put his hat on and brightened up the day. With perfect running conditions, everyone was in high spirits.
Pupils were given the chance to walk the courses prior to the first race to familiarise themselves with the route.
Each of the races were extremely exciting with runners setting off at an energetic pace. Runners were cheered on by lots of spectators, who had come to watch the top young runners in the county compete.
The young runners completed the following distances;
- Year 3 (boys & girls) – 1000m
• Year 4 (boys & girls) – 1200m
• Year 5 (boys & girls) – 1400m
• Year 6 (boys & girls) – 1600m

Year 4 Girls.
Olivia from East Norfolk SSP, 2nd – Amety Gardner from North Norfolk SSP, 3rd – Leah from West Norfolk SSP.

1st – Seb from Norwich East SSP, 2nd – Ethan from South Norfolk SSP, 3rd – William from South Norfolk SSP.
Year 5 Girls.
1st – Lexi from West Norwich and Dereham SSP, 2nd – Emily from Norwich East SSP, 3rd – Rosie from Breckland SSP.
Year 5 Boys.
1st – Oscar from West Norfolk SSP, 2nd – Dyland from West Norwich and Dereham SSP, 3rd – Preston from North Norfolk SSP.
Year 6 Girls.
1st – Eva from Breckland SSP, 2nd – Amber from Norwich East SSP, Alice from North Norfolk SSP.
Year 6 Boys.
1st – Jude from Norwich East SSP, 2nd – Toby from Norwich East SSP, Harvey from North Norfolk SSP.

The event was supported by sports leaders from Alderman Peel High School, who acted as marshals to help guide runners around the course. A massive thank you to all of the volunteers that supported the event and also to Holkham Hall for allowing Norfolk School Games to host the 2020 Cross Country Finals at this stunning venue for the third year.
The Norfolk School Games Winter Finals 2020 are now complete, with Cross Country being our final event. We hope everyone who participated had a great time and a positive experience and we looking forward to seeing many Norfolk schools involved with the Norfolk School Games Summer Finals in June.
