Norfolk School Games: A Celebration of Young Athletes
Date: Thursday, 28th November
Location: Langley Prep School, Taverham
The Norfolk School Games welcomed 640 primary school children and their families from across the county to the picturesque setting of Langley Prep School in Taverham.
The conditions were perfect for running the challenging cross-country course, and the young athletes were eager to compete, having already showcased their superb athletic abilities in their local School Sport Partnership (SSP) qualifying events.
The pupils were full of energy and enthusiasm as they tightened their laces and set off for their races. Congratulations to all the runners who displayed remarkable determination, courage, and resilience, especially those for whom this was their first county-level competition. We were in awe of how well the runners rose to the challenge and thrilled to see such a strong display of team spirit throughout the day.
Feedback from Participants:
“Tough hill and enjoyed challenging myself.”
“Really enjoyed the experience.”
Teachers’ Comments:
“It was a well-organized event that gave the children a chance to compete in a safe environment with the thrill of a great finish line with spectators.”
Winners from each race were awarded medals, recognizing their commitment and accomplishments. All runners received certificates and information from their SSP to further their running experience through local clubs and opportunities, including Athletics Norfolk and Junior Parkrun. Athletics Norfolk provided valuable support on the day, and we encourage everyone to check out their upcoming Cross-Country and County Championships after Christmas: Athletics Norfolk and Norfolk Sports hall.

A big thank you to the Norfolk schools and the supportive parents who contributed to the success of this energising event, enabling a large group of budding young athletes to compete at the county level and make themselves proud.
We also extend our sincere thanks to Mr. Twentyman, Head of Prep Sport at Langley Prep School, and their Year 8 students who volunteered as marshals, as well as runners from Notre Dame High School and Archbishop Sancroft High School for guiding all participants safely through the Year 3, 4, 5, and 6 cross-country courses.
If you are a Norfolk primary, secondary, or SEND school and would like support in creating more meaningful movement opportunities and positive experiences for your pupils, please contact your local SSP team here: Organisers – Norfolk School Games.
We are now looking forward to our next Norfolk School Games County event, which will spotlight Girls’ Football in March 2025, with qualifying competitions leading up to it organised by your SSP.
Until then, we wish you all a happy Christmas and the healthiest New Year! 🎄🎉
