Norfolk Schools Leadership Pathway recently hosted an inspiring Girls Active Leadership Training Day, bringing together Year 9 and 10 students from across the county for a day of growth and empowerment. Organised by eight Norfolk School Sports Partnerships (SSPs), the event focused on building confidence, enhancing leadership skills, and encouraging active involvement in sports and community initiatives.
What skills did the event aim to strengthen?
The training day featured dynamic workshops designed to:
– Empower girls to grow as confident leaders
– Inspire positive change in schools and communities.
– Teach key officiating skills to bolster self-assurance.
– Develop communication, collaboration, and decision-making abilities.
– Equip students with the tools to organise festivals and competitions.
What was on offer?
The event featured an array of engaging sessions led by professionals and experts:
- Leadership in Sports Officiating: England Netball Umpire Gary Burgess introduced officiating skills to boost confidence and competence.
- Basic First Aid: Expert Andy Anderson delivered essential first aid training to prepare students for emergencies.
- Support Coaching: The Norfolk Cricket Board provided insights into coaching fundamentals, inspiring students to guide others effectively.
- Enhancing Practical Sessions: The UEA Sportspark PROgress team shared strategies to adapt and improve physical activities.

The day was a resounding success, thanks to the enthusiasm of participating schools and the dedication of organisers and deliverers.
The event received glowing feedback from participant, with one student sharing: “We loved it, and it empowers girls to be the best they can be.” Another added, “That was the best conversation of my life,” emphasising the profound impact of the day’s activities and discussions.
