Day 5 of the Games moved to the Easton College campus and its neighboring Norwich Family Golf Centre. The day saw pupils in years 3-6 compete in tri golf, mini tennis and basketball.
The mini tennis competition was held in the colleges impressive indoor tennis centre with the support of the centres expert coaches. Teams of four players (2 boys and 2 girls) competed against other qualifying teams from across the county. The event was run as a team event with each of the four players playing singles matches against players from other teams. Players scored points for their team dependent on their results.
The standard of play was extremely high with many experienced young tennis players competing alongside other who were newer to the sport. Once all of the matches were completed the following results were announced;
1st – Catton Grove Primary (Norwich East SSP)
2nd – Cringleford Primary (Norwich SSP)
3rd – North Wootton (West Norfolk SSP)
The event was supported by sports leaders from Aylsham High School and Dereham Neathard High School.
Meanwhile, over at the colleges sports centre the top young basketballers from across the county were testing their skills against each other in the Yr 5-6 Basketball Finals. All matches were officiated by young coaches from Basketball in the Community.
Teams were split into two groups of four where teams played each other in a round robin format with games lasting 12mins. At the culmination of the group stages, the teams that won their groups played off for 1st/2nd places and the teams that finished 2nd in each group played off for 3rd/4th places.
At the end of an intense couple of hours of competition the final results were;
1st – Stoke Holy Cross Primary (South Norfolk SSP)
2nd – Cringleford Primary (Norwich SSP)
3rd – Woodlands Primary (East Norfolk SSP)
The winning teams was presented with a trophy and medals and the teams that finished runners up and in third place were also given medals to recognise their achievements.
Whilst the mini tennis and basketball competitions were happening, just down the road at the Norwich Family Golf Centre, the School Games Yr 3-4 Tri Golf Finals were also in full swing.
The Finals were supported by the Golf Foundation and saw teams of xx from the county’s 8 SSPs competing in a big schools (>120 pupils) and small schools (<12o pupils) competitions.
The competition followed the Golf Foundations Tri Golf format which is designed specifically for young people aged 5-11 years old.
The competition challenged teams of pupils to accumulate scores gained whilst completed a variety of golf skill based challenges. The team with the highest score at the end of the event would be crowned champions.
At the end of the small schools event the following result were announced;
1st – Trowse Primary (Norwich East SSP)
2nd – Langham Village School (North Norfolk SSP)
3rd – Glebe House (West Norfolk SSP)
4th – Yaxham Primary (West Norwich and Dereham SSP)
5th – Rollesby Primary (East Norfolk SSP)
And in the big schools event;
1st – Notre Dame Prep (Norwich SSP)
2nd – Holt Primary (North Norfolk SSP)
3rd – Hillcrest Primary (West Norfolk SSP)
4th – HinghamPrimary (Breckland SSP)
5th – Firside Junior (West Norwich and Dereham SSP)
6th – Sprowston Junior (Norwich East SSP)
7th – Loddon Junior (South Norfolk SSP)
8th – North Denes Junior (East Norfolk SSP)
Tomorrow is the final day of the Summer Games (Day 6) and will showcase the athletics talent of pupils from high schools across Norfolk held at the Sportspark, UEA.
