Norfolk Summer School Games – Day 6

Today was the sixth and final day of the Summer Games and the temperature was scorching both on and off the track. The Games culminated in a hugely exciting athletics finals for pupils in Years 7-10 held at Norfolk’s premier athletics track at the Sportspark, UEA.

All of the pupils had qualified to take part by winning through local qualifying events where they won the right to represent their local School Sport Partnership (SSP). The eight SSPs all fielded extremely strong squads for today’s competition with  boys and girls from Years 7-10 taking part in a range of track and field events.

The event was supported by a range of volunteers inc coaches and officials from the City of Norwich Athletics Club (CoNAC) as well as pupils from participating schools.

The event was a real celebration of the talent that Norfolk has with some incredible performances in many events. Athletes were awarded points dependent upon their performance in the events which were tallied up to give each SSP an overall school for the competition.

The overall results were;

1st – South Norfolk SSP (560 pts)

2nd – West Norwich and Dereham SSP (472 pts)

3rd – West Norfolk SSP (446 pts)

4th – Norwich SSP (415 pts)

5th – Norwich East SSP (393 pts)

6th – East Norfolk SSP (357 pts)

7th – North Norfolk SSP (287 pts)

Overall, the event was a fitting finale for the 2014 Norfolk Summer School Game. The 6 day long event had seen over 2500 young people take part in the Finals with approximately 20,000 having taken part in the qualifying events ran in each of the eight SSPs.

Throughout the Games we have had a film crew capturing lots of the incredible action. They will be producing a s-3 minute highlights film of the Games which we will post on our website as well as on our social media profiles (Twitter @NorfolkSchGames and Facebook /NorfolkSchoolGames).

Following the completion of the Games the organisors will undertake a debrief process before starting to plan the 2015 events. If you have any comments about the 2014 Games or suggestions for the 2015 Games please email stephen.hulme@activenorfolk.org.
