Norfolk Winter School Games – Day 6 Report

On day 6 of the 2016 Norfolk Winter School Games, over 200 pupils from across the country took part in a Playground to Podium Festival. The festival aimed to engage more young people who have a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND) in school sport.

Pupils from the following 21 schools took part in the festival;

  • Clare School
  • St Francis of Assisi Catholic Primary School
  • Bure Valley Primary School
  • Jane Austin College
  • Sprowston High School
  • Blofield Primary School
  • St Williams Primary SchoolP2P 3
  • Acle St Edmond Primary School
  • Mundesley Junior School
  • Sheringham High School
  • Aylsham High School
  • Little Snoring Primary School
  • North Denes
  • Dereham Neatherd High School
  • Hellesdon High School
  • Toftwood Primary School
  • Firside Junior School

Pupils were split into 4 groups; physically disabled, hearing impaired, visually impaired and wheelchair users. Each group was given the opportunity to take part in three activities from the following list;

  • JudoP2P 1
  • Tennis
  • Golf
  • Cricket
  • Football
  • Wheelchair basketball
  • Wheelchair tennis
  • Boccia
  • Gymnastics
  • Athletics

All of the activities were delivered by coaches from local sports clubs and national governing bodies with support from volunteers from City of Norwich School, Diss High School and Easton and Otley College.

The 2016 Norfolk Winter School Games will conclude tomorrow with the Special School Games which will be held at the Sportspark in Norwich.
