Today’s Quadkids event was split into two sessions, with teams from year 3 & 4s competing in the morning and the year 5 & 6s battling it out in the afternoon.
We were extremely lucky with the weather and the sun was shinning all day as a total of 29 teams competed through out the day to represent their School Sport Partnership. Schools brought teams of 5 boys and 5 girls to compete in 4 different events.
The year 3 & 4s competed in a 50m sprint, a longer 400m run, a vortex howler throw and a standing long jump whereas the year 5 & 6s had it slightly harder with a 75m sprint, a longer 600m run, a vortex howler throw and a standing long jump.
Schools were gathered together at the start of the event for the competition briefing and then they were then split into 8 groups and rotated around the 4 activities collecting points for their school as a team.
There were many excellent performances with lots of smiles and cheers throughout the day. Many parents and spectators were able to come and support which added to the atmosphere of the day. 290 children took part overall at todays event, with all scores then being recorded on an electronic spreadsheet.
Sincere thanks goes to everyone who helped at this event for their sheer dedication and hard work, without the teamwork on show today we would not be able to deliver such a fantastic event. Also, a special thank you to the young sports leaders from Thorpe School and City College.
Congratulations to those children who were selected and received a School Games Value Sportsmanship sticker in our end of the day presentation. There was a lot of teamwork, positive attitudes and great sportsmanship on show throughout the day.
Our Local Special Guest & School Games Ambassador for the day, Iona Lake, was introduced to the children and presented medals to our top 3 schools.
Iona Lake made her Commonwealth Games debut in Australia back in April 2018. She joined the other athletes in Team England’s athletics squad to compete at the Carrara Stadium in the 3,000m steeplechase. She is currently coached by Pauline Ash at the City of Norwich Athletics Club and is aiming for Tokyo 2020. Iona will be back with the School Games team on Friday for some Secondary Athletics action.
