Secondary Alternative Sports Day

On the 3rd and 4th May 2018, secondary school pupils from schools across the county took part in our Secondary Alternative Sports Days. The event was held at Kaset and Alive Leisure in Kings Lynn and it was hard to believe that they were in fact the last couple of days of the 2018 Winter Games events due to the sunny weather throughout.

The event, which was a new addition to our school games timetable, saw pupils from secondary schools in Norfolk take part in a variety of activities. These included, skateboarding, assault course, graffiti, cycling and climbing. Each activity was an introductory session and for most it was the first time trying these sports. Some pupils overcame their fear of heights on the climbing wall and assault course whilst others learnt how to ride a bicycle for the first time.

Following the event, a PE teacher who attended said that the hour session alone had enabled one pupil to learn how to ride and has continued to practise since.

We’d like to thank the fantastic deliverers who made the sessions engaging and fun for everyone as well as the leaders from West Anglia College who supported and encouraged throughout.

We hope that the next alternative day in our summer games week will bring different schools and pupils who would like to try alternative sports. The sports to look forward to are; Ultimate Frisbee, Handball, American Football and Dodgeball.

If your school would like to be a part of it, contact your school games organiser. We look forward to welcoming you to the next games!
