Special School Games

On the opening day of our  Norfolk School Games we were delighted to welcome the following schools to our Special School Games event, Sheringham Woodfields School, The Clare School, Hall School and Parkside School.

70 very excited boys and girls took part in a trio of events, Wheelchair Basketball, Handball and American Football.

The Wheelchair Basketball, led by Joel Connor-Saunders, is always a great favourite and the students were soon manoeuvering the chairs with the greatest of ease as they fought off the opposition to pop the ball into their opponents basket. The rivalry was friendly and all participants seemed to enjoy themselves.

The American Football was led by Adam Copple who soon had the students handling the rugby shaped ball like pros.  A good time was had by all in this fast-moving, and exciting, session.

Both of these sessions were supported by an excellent group of Sports Leaders from City College who brought their own wealth of knowledge and encouragement to the sessions which was greatly appreciated by the youngsters and their staff.

The Handball, which was led by The Head of PE from Sprowston High School, Mr James Panayi.  He was very ably assisted by a fantastic group of Handball enthusiasts from his school, all of whom play the game competitively.   The younsters were taught the basics skills of the game, and also some rules which were, mostly adhered to, in what turned out to be fast and furious games played by players, their teachers and sports leaders.  It was wonderful to see the cameraderie in the teams as they vied for goals against their opponents!  It was even better to see the support and encouragement given to each and every one of the participants as they played with such enthuiasm and determination.

Many thanks to our coaches and sports leaders who, not only imparted their skills and knowledge, but also ensured that the children had a fabulous day to remember.
