2015 Norfolk Winter School Games – Day 3 Report

Day 3 of the Games saw 200 pupils from across Norfolk converge on the UEA Sportspark in Norwich for the Norfolk School Gams – Playground to Podium Festival. The festival aimed to provide young people with a Special Educational Need or Disability (SEND) with a specific opportunity to represent their school in a competitive school sport event.

The festival gave pupils the opportunity to take part in a range of exciting sports sessions that they might not ever have had the opportunity to take part in including; wheel chair basketball, mini tennis, cricket, table tennis and boccia. All sessions were delivered by local sports coaches who are experienced in their individual sports as well as working with young people with SEND.

Pupils from the following schools participated in the Festival;

  • Woodland Primary Academy
  • Avenue Junior School
  • Broadland High School

On Day 4, the Games will move to Diss Rugby Club in South Norfolk where we will see teams from each of the eight School Sport Partnerships (SSPs) competing in the Yr 5-6 Tag Rugby Finals. The event will also include a separate competition for small schools (less than 125 pupils). The aim of the small schools competition is to provide a fairer competition for schools that have fewer pupils to choose from and who may not have enough pupils to meet the squad criteria of the regular competition. The Games also include small school competitions in Sportshall Athletics (Winter Games) and Football, High 5 Netball and Tri Golf (Summer Games).
