On Day 5 of the Games, the action moved back to the swimming pool and sports halls of our local sponsor the UEA Sportspark.
Swimming Finals
During the morning approx. 100 Yr 7-9 pupils, that had qualified to represent their local School Sport Partnership (SSP), battled it out in the pool in the School Games Swimming Finals. Pupils competed in individual 50m races in; backstroke, breaststroke, freestyle and butterfly, as well as 4 x 50m team relays for each year group.
In the afternoon it was the turn of 100 Yr 4-6 pupils to take to the pool. The Primary school pupils took part in the same events as their high school compatriates but instead over the shorter distance of 25m.
A full breakdown of the results from both events will be added to this article on Friday 6th March. To view photos of the swimming finals please click here.
All of the pupils that took part in both Finals had qualified to take part by taking part in local qualifying events run by each of the eight SSPs within the County. For many of the young swimmers that took part in the qualifying competitions, they were the first competitive swimming gala that they had ever taken part in.
The Swimming Finals were run in partnership with the UEA City of Norwich Swimming Club, who provided experienced club officials to officiate the gala as well as access to their touch pad timing system in order to provide the young swimmers with a high quality experience. For more information about the swimming opportunities that the club offers please visit their website.
