Secondary pupils run, jump and throw themselves into achieving their personal best on the last day of the Norfolk School Games Finals Week 2019

With a glorious sunny start to the day at the Sportspark, around 640 pupils from Secondary Schools across the County came together to compete in the Secondary School School Games Athletics Finals.

The day started with the boys battling it out the track and the girls competing in their field events and then after a lunch break the girls took to the track and the boys headed out to their field events. Field events today included; shot put, discus, javelin, long jump, triple jump and high jump and on the track we had 100m, 200m, 300m, 400m, 800m and 1500m races.

All of the medals that we given out today on the track were presented by Team England’s Iona Lake, who competed at the Commonwealth Games in Australia where she took part in the 3000m Steeplechase and is now aiming for Tokyo next year. A massive thank you to Iona, again , for being our School Games Ambasador for the day. She took time to talk to the competitors and I am sure, as a local Norfolk Athletics talent , inspired many today.

As always we are hugely grateful to the UEA Sportspark for hosting us and allowing us to use their fantastic facilities for today and the duration of the games.

A thank you to everyone who helped out with the running of the event today , we had the most support we have ever had at an Athletics meet and it really showed. Also a massive thank you to the Sports Leaders from Taverham High School who helped with the timing of the races.

The overall Partnership standings finished as follows…

1st – South Norfolk

2nd – North Norfolk

3rd –West Norwich and Dereham

4th – West Norfolk

5th – Norwich East

6th – East Norfolk

7th- Breckland
