Winter 2018 Day 1 – Students inspired by the Panathlon Challenge!

It was a great opening day of the Norfolk Winter School games 2018 as two teams from Dereham Neatherd and one team from City Academy Norwich competed in their first ever Panathlon competition. For many students involved this was their first experience of participating in a Panathlon and representing their school in organised sport.

Seven KS3 students from City Academy Norwich and fifteen KS3 students from Dereham Neatherd completed the Panathlon challenge which consisted of competitions in a variety of events including Boccia, Table Cricket, Poly bat, New Age Curling, Field Athletics and running races. Students participated with enthusiasm throughout and were clearly inspired by the recent winter Olympics performing some great shots in the New Age Curling event!

The competition was excellently run by the Panathlon Foundation Limited who organised an inclusive and fantastic competition for all students to enjoy. They were ably assisted by the impressive Wymondham College leaders who officiated, coached and encouraged all students throughout!

Well done to all of the students who participated in the Panathlon today, students demonstrated excellent team work and technique in a range of different events and should be proud of their achievements. The final results were as follows.

1st place – Dereham Neatherd team 1

2nd place – City Academy Norwich

3rd place – Dereham Neatherd team 2
