Day 2 – Over 600 Norfolk Pupils Take Part in School Games Cross Country Finals

Friday 10th February saw day 2 of the 2017 Norfolk School Games Winter Finals take place at Gresham’s School in Holt. The second day of the Games saw over 600 young runners take part in the Yr 3-6 cross country finals.

Each of the participants had qualified to represent their local School Sports Partnership (SSP) by taking part in a prior qualifying competition. Each SSP team included 80 runners made up of 10 boys and girls from each of years 3/4/5/6.

Despite the cold temperatures and the odd snow flurry, everyone kept in high spirits and the sun even made an appearance towards the end of the afternoon.

Pupils were given the chance to walk the courses prior to the first race to familiarise themselves with the route.

Each of the races was tremendously exciting with runners setting off at a blazing pace. Runners were cheered on by hundreds of spectators who had come to watch the top young runners in the country compete.

The young runners completed the following distances;

• Year 3 (boys & girls) – 1000m
• Year 4 (boys & girls) – 1200m
• Year 5 (boys & girls) – 1400m
• Year 6 (boys & girls) – 1600m
