Today saw the 2017 Norfolk Summer School Games Finals kick off in style with the Yr 3-4 girls football finals. The event was held in unexpectedly wintery conditions at the Goals Soccer Centre in Norwich.
Over 230 girls from across the County represented their school in the finals and did their very best to show off their football skills as well as their sportsmanlike qualities.
All of the teams that took part in the Finals had qualified to take part by competing in a local qualifying competition run by each of the 8 school sport partnerships in Norfolk.
The Finals included two separate events; the Champions 
League competition which was for teams who had qualified in 1st or 2nd place within their local qualifying competition and, the UEFA Cup which was for the teams who qualified in 3rd or 4th place.
Once the teams had been welcomed to the event they were split into groups of up to four teams. The teams played against each other in a round robin format.
Matches were 8 minutes long with teams being able to make rolling substitutes to give all players plenty of playing time. All matches were refereed by sport students from Easton and Otley College.
Once all of the results were calculated and announced, the 
teams that finished 1st or 2nd in each group were invited to proceed into the Cup competition. Meanwhile, teams that finishedd 3rd or 4th were invited to take part in the Plate competitions. The Cup and Plate competitions both included two groups
Teams were again split into equal groups where they had the opportunity to play against the other teams in the group.
Once this stage was completed teams progressed into the Play Off stages where the teams who finished in the same position in each of the two groups played off against each other for overall positions.

The winning team in both of the cup competitions were presented with a trophy whilst the teams that won the plate competitions were both awarded a small shield. All participants were given a certificate to commemorate their achievements in qualifying for the finals and excellent performances throughout the event.
During the event school staff were given the opportunity to nominate pupils to receive a Norfolk School Games Sportsmanship Award. These are given to pupils who show excellent sportsmanlike qualities such as determination, focus, motivation, team work and social skills. At the end of the presentation ceremony certificates were presented to 12 well deserving pupils who had been nominated for an award.

The Norfolk School Games Finals will continue on Monday 19th June when young pupils from across Norfolk will compete in the Yr 1-2 & 3-4 Tri Golf Finals at the Norwich Family Golf Centre.
